Spam Help

How do I configure my spam filter?

  1. Log in to our web based e-mail at http://webmail.michcom.net.
  2. Click on the Options menu and go to SpamAssassin Settings.
  3. There are instructions on that page to help catch more spam. Or stop legitimate e-mail from being marked as spam.
  4. You can also change the "score" that it takes for mail to be marked as [SPAM].
  5. Click the Save Settings button and that's it. Your new rules are effective immediately.
  6. SpamAssassin settings apply to all incoming e-mail. No matter if you check it through web mail, Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.

How do I set up SPAM Filters in Outlook Express?

  1. Go to the Tools menu.

  2. Click Message Rules, then click Mail if you're using Outlook Express or click on Rules and Alerts if you're using Microsoft Outlook.

    Outlook Express

    Microsoft Outlook

  3. In Outlook Express the Message Rules Window will appear, and if you haven't made a message rule before, the New Mail Rule Window will automatically pop up. (If it doesn't, click New)

  4. In the Conditions section, select Where the subject line contains specific words.

  5. In the Actions section, select Move it to the specified folder.

    Outlook Express

    Microsoft Outlook

  6. In the Rule Description section, click contains specific words. A Type Specific Words box will pop up.

  7. Put in the word [SPAM] (with the brackets), click Add, then OK.

  8. Now click on the specified link to tell it where to move the e-mails to.
  9. Click on New Folder, type in a folder name such as Spam or Junk Mail.

  10. Click OK to close the New Folder Window, OK to close the Move Window, and OK to close the New Mail Rule Window.

A filter set up as described above will automatically take your spam and put it in the Spam folder. You can modify your rules to suit your needs. For instance, you can also filter mail based on the sender's address, or other criteria by adding new rules.
